Nvidia's DGX Spark Prices Skyrocket Amid Global Memory Crisis
Nvidia has unveiled an updated version of its DGX Spark series of mini-PCs, designed for running AI models locally. The new entry-level model boasts a GPU with the Blackwell architecture and is available in two configurations: one with 64 GByte of LPDDR5X memory priced at $5,000, and another with 128 GByte of RAM priced at $6,000.
These prices represent a significant increase over their predecessors, which were released about a year ago. The updated models come as the global market for memory components continues to grapple with supply constraints, particularly affecting DDR chips commonly used in PCs and other devices.
Nvidia has secured long-term supplies of HBM memory for its fastest AI accelerators but appears to be struggling with LPDDR5, which is essential for the DGX Spark. The price hike may lead individual manufacturers to set their own prices, with $5,000 serving as a guideline.
