Oklahoma Residents Advised to Dial Back Thermostat as Fall Brings Cooler Temperatures
The fall season has officially begun in Oklahoma, bringing cooler temperatures and lower heating bills. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, it's recommended to set thermostats to 68 degrees during the day when at home and lowering them at night or when away.
Honeywell Home suggests dropping the temperature to between 60 and 68 degrees at night for optimal comfort without breaking the bank. If these temperatures feel too cool, experts recommend layering up with sweaters and blankets instead of raising the thermostat.
When no one is at home, lowering temperatures by seven to ten degrees can result in noticeable savings on energy bills. Honeywell Home also shared extra tips for reducing energy costs, including sealing drafts, using ceiling fans, humidifying the air, and layering clothing.
