Peak of Dot-Com Bubble Still Returned Original Stake After 26 Years
The Nasdaq-100's 2000 peak still turned $10,000 into about $72,000. The Invesco QQQ Trust closed at its dot-com peak of $117.75 on March 27, 2000, and then fell 83% to its October 2002 low.
With dividends reinvested, it took nearly 15 years for the investment to return to even. The fund's share price didn't close above its previous peak again until September 2016.
The recovery was slow and uneven. Cisco Systems and Intel, two giants of that era, didn't close above their 2000 peaks again until December 2025 and this past April, respectively.
