Pharma Regulatory Deluge Brings Label Expansions and Approvals

Regulatory news poured in across the globe as several key pharmaceutical companies received updates and approvals for their products. Merck's Winrevair, a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), had its label expanded to include data from patients newly diagnosed with PAH receiving background therapies. The FDA sign-off showed a 76% reduction in clinical worsening versus placebo when Winrevair was given on top of these treatments.

Nuvation Bio's oncology drug Ibtrozi, a CNS-active oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor, had its label updated to include 14 months of additional data from the Trust-I study. This showed a median duration of response of nearly 50 months in patients who had not received a tyrosine kinase inhibitor.

Lantheus' Bravnetsa, a copycat of Novartis' Lutathera, was granted final approval for somatostatin receptor-positive gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors under the FDA's abbreviated new drug application pathway. The treatment boasts bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence to its reference product.
