Raspberry Pi Users Can Now Run Google Chrome with Syncing Features
Google Chrome is now available for 64-bit Arm Linux, and its latest version has been tested on a Raspberry Pi 5. The browser's open-source counterpart, Chromium, has been available for Arm Linux for years but lacks some features like account sync and automatic updates.
Users can easily install Google Chrome by modifying the download link to point to the arm64 version instead of amd64. This process was successfully tested on a Raspberry Pi 5 with Raspberry Pi OS.
The installation revealed that Google Chrome now appears alongside Chromium and Firefox in the list of Internet applications, and some GPU features like WebGL and video acceleration are enabled. However, Chromium offers the same performance, so there's no clear advantage here.
One notable feature of Google Chrome is its ability to synchronize passwords, bookmarks, installed plugins, and more between multiple machines through the 'Sign in to Chrome' button in the top-right corner.
