Salesforce to Acquire Listen Labs for Enhanced Customer Research
Salesforce has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Listen Labs, a deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal 2027, pending customary conditions and regulatory clearance. Listen Labs operates a platform with over 50 million participants, capable of conducting interviews in more than 120 languages. The acquisition aims to integrate automated customer research into Salesforce's CRM and AI products.
Listen Labs CEO Alfred Wahlforss highlighted the platform's evolution from an AI interviewer to a comprehensive tool for understanding customers. The platform recruits participants, conducts interviews, analyzes responses, and simulates potential behaviors. This blend of capabilities makes it attractive to Salesforce, which already organizes customer interactions.
The platform's research operation streamlines the process from study design to synthesis, potentially reducing the time between asking questions and discussing findings. However, the quality of research depends on the participants' relevance to the intended customer base. Automated synthesis helps identify recurring themes, but the detailed conversations remain valuable for preserving nuances.
Listen Labs also offers simulation capabilities, creating digital twins based on real customer behavior to predict reactions to new products or marketing messages. This feature complements but does not replace actual customer interviews. The integration with Salesforce products, particularly Marketing Cloud and Service Cloud, could enhance customer insights by combining interview findings with existing CRM data.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The next steps include satisfying closing conditions, including regulatory clearance, before Salesforce can integrate Listen Labs' capabilities into its products. The existing Listen Labs team will continue building the platform within Salesforce AI Labs, with future product decisions to be made separately.
