Disney executive Eric Schrier is leaving his role as president of direct-to-consumer international originals, strategic programming and emerging media after nearly three decades at the company. The move comes as Disney continues to scale its streaming operations under a single leader.

Schrier, who was instrumental in launching FX alongside chairman John Landgraf, will be starting a new production company under the Disney umbrella. He will continue working with Disney through a producing partnership, according to Debra OConnell, Disney Entertainment Television chairman.

OConnell wrote that Schrier's decision came from a desire to return to his creative roots and pursue 'that next chapter'. The news comes almost a month after Chuck Saftler, another Disney television executive who was instrumental in building FX, announced his exit.
