Stitch Speeds Up Design Process for Once Upon Today Creator

The creator of Once Upon Today, a diary app that turns daily experiences into comic panels, used Google's design tool Stitch to create its entire UI in just a few hours. The process involved using Stitch's features such as prompting, state generation, and variation ranges to bring the app's concept to life.

Prompting allowed the creator to describe a screen in detail, resulting in a real UI being generated, not just a rough sketch. This feature was particularly useful for someone without formal design training, as it required describing what they wanted rather than how to compose a layout.

The state generation feature was another standout, allowing the creator to generate different states of the same page, such as an empty state and a populated state, directly from the base design. This not only saved time but also forced the creator to make important product decisions early on in the process.

However, the creator noted that precision editing is lacking within Stitch itself, with everything relying on prompts. To address this issue, they exported some screens to Figma for fine-tuning and found it worked well.
