Summer M&A Frenzy Reshapes the Nutraceutical Industry
This summer saw a flurry of deal-making in the nutraceutical and functional nutrition space. Between June and September, major brands and investors made significant moves to position themselves for growth.
The VMS (Vitamin, Mineral, and Supplement) segment was particularly active, with Procter & Gamble's $3.8 billion purchase of Thorne from L Catterton being one of the largest deals. This acquisition signals that mainstream consumer goods players see clinically validated, practitioner-trusted VMS brands as a genuine growth category.
Nestlé also made moves in this space, selling seven VMS brands to private equity firm Yellow Wood Partners for $1 billion. However, the company opted to keep its premium, science-led brands and offload its mainstream mass-market business to an owner built for that model.
