Swarm Aero Unveils Low-Cost Gamera Drone to Replace MQ-9 Reaper

Swarm Aero has unveiled its Gamera drone, a low-cost autonomous aircraft designed to carry heavy payloads on long-range strike missions. The twin-fuselage drone features a Honeywell TPE331 turboprop and Legion command-and-control software.

Gamera has a 72-foot wingspan and an unrefueled range of 9,000 nautical miles, making it capable of carrying heavyweight weapons such as the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) and Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER).

Swarm Aero claims Gamera can deliver long-range standoff strikes at one-tenth the cost per effect of existing platforms. The company is positioning Gamera for the Massed Modular Aircraft (MMA) program led by the US Air Force and Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), aiming to replace the MQ-9 Reaper.
