Teamsters in Ohio Shut Down Coca-Cola Operations Over Contract Disputes
A strike against Coca-Cola's Ohio operations has expanded to include over 300 Teamsters in multiple cities after workers in Anderson, Akron, Toledo, and Twinsburg joined the picket line. The Teamsters claim that Coca-Cola has engaged in unfair labor practices and negotiated in bad faith during contract talks.
The strike began on September 2 at the Anderson facility, where 48 workers represented by Teamsters Local 135 have been striking over issues with wages, healthcare, and maintaining the status quo in their current contract. According to Jeff Padellaro, director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery and Soft Drink Conference, 'The company has been failing to seriously bargain without members, and we aren't going to stand for it.'
The strike has effectively shut down Coca-Cola's Ohio operations, with no immediate comment from the company available. The union stated that they will remain on the picket line until a fair contract is in place.
