US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his support for artificial intelligence development, dismissing concerns over AI safety as a 'hoax' during a phone conversation with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The call came at an industry summit on September 14, where Huang put the president on speakerphone.

'The robots will not be taking over. AI will not be taking over the rest of the world. The whole thing is a hoax,' Trump said in the conversation, which was recorded and posted online.

Trump emphasized the need for the US to maintain its lead over China in AI innovation and development, saying 'We're going to make sure that everybody wins in the AI race in America.'

The president also praised data centres as a major economic opportunity, describing them as 'great' and stating they could bring wealth to people and states.
