Trump's €20m Security Operation Unfolds in Co Clare Ahead of Golf Tournament

A major security operation is underway in Co Clare for the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament at his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel from September 10-13. The event is expected to cost €20m, surpassing the €11.3m spent on Garda overtime during Trump's visit to his five-star resort in June 2019.

The security operation will involve around 4,000 individuals and will be one of the largest of its kind for a multi-day sporting event in Irish history. No-fly zones will be extended around Doonbeg before and during the visit, while sailors and fishermen will be warned of an exclusion zone in coastal waters off Clare.

Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District, Cllr Michael Shannon (FF), welcomed Trump's visit, saying that the President would be 'warmly welcomed' to the area. He added that the event was a 'positive occasion for West Clare' and an opportunity to promote the region as a location for future economic investment.
