Trump's Diesel Export Ban Proposal Sparks Fears of Global Energy Chaos

President Donald Trump has floated the idea of restricting diesel exports to curb high prices. However, experts warn that this would have unintended and catastrophic consequences both domestically and globally.

The US produces around 5.3 million barrels of distillate daily, while consuming only approximately 3.6 million barrels. If diesel exports were restricted, refiners like ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) would simply reduce production to meet domestic demand, negating the effect on prices.

Furthermore, removing up to 1.5 million barrels per day of diesel exports from the US would disrupt the global energy supply chain, leading to higher global energy prices and additional costs for rerouted distillate shipments.
