Twitch Gamers Rebel Against Default Data Sharing With Amazon
Twitch, the popular livestream gaming platform, has drawn criticism from its users after announcing plans to share their data with its parent company Amazon. According to Twitch, user data will be used to train AI models across all of Amazon's platforms.
The move is part of a growing trend in which companies are sharing user data to improve artificial intelligence. In this case, Twitch claims that users will have the option to opt out of data-sharing, but the decision to share their data will be on by default.
Twitch's chief product officer Mike Minton acknowledged the backlash, saying 'An honest answer is: if it was opt-in, nobody would opt-in.' He added, 'It's going to be on by default, and in almost every content service in the world, it is on by default.'
