UNH Stock Surges on Medicaid and Optum Health Prospects
UnitedHealth Group (UNH) has seen its stock price rise by 14.1% to $376.59, as of September 25. This growth comes after a year-end close of $330.11 in 2025. Despite being about 18% below the intraday 52-week high of $461.62, analysts remain optimistic about the company's prospects.
The company's Medicaid and Optum Health segments are expected to drive growth in 2027. Chief Financial Officer Wayne DeVeydt stated that blended Medicaid rate increases of 6% to 7% were as expected, putting 2026 margins near the better end of the -1% to -1.7% range.
Optum Health, the care-delivery unit, posted a $278 million operating loss in 2025 but is expected to reach around 2% margin in 2026, 4% in 2027, and 6% in 2028. Medicare Advantage margins are tracking toward the upper half of the 2% to 4% range.
