United Adds Rare Winter Flights to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress
United Airlines is adding two rare winter flights from San Francisco to Barcelona using the Boeing 777-300ER, specifically timed to accommodate the Mobile World Congress in March 2027. The Star Alliance member will operate these round trips on February 27 and March 3, 2027, catering to the increased corporate demand surrounding the event. The flights, UA672 and UA673, will depart San Francisco at 7:00 PM and arrive in Barcelona the next day at 3:20 PM, with the return leg departing Barcelona at 5:30 PM and landing in San Francisco the same day at 8:50 PM.
The Boeing 777-300ER selected for these flights features 350 seats, divided into 60 in Polaris business class, 24 in Premium Plus premium economy, and 266 in economy, with 62 of those offering extra legroom. This addition complements United's regular summer service from San Francisco to Barcelona, which has evolved over the years, switching from the Boeing 777-200ER to the Boeing 787-9 in September 2026.
United's strategy aligns with other airlines that add special flights for major trade shows, such as the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Patrick Quayle, United's SVP of Global Network Planning and Alliances, emphasizes the carrier's extensive network, offering nonstop access to unique international destinations from the US.
