US Approves Revised 340B Rebate Pilot for Top-Selling Medications
The US Department of Health and Human Services' subagency, HRSA, has released a list of manufacturers approved for a revised 340B rebate pilot. The program aims to address concerns from drugmakers and lawmakers that hospitals are profiteering off the decades-old discount program.
The list includes 10 major pharmaceutical companies, including AbbVie, Merck, and Pfizer, which will only have to pay savings to providers after they verify the transaction qualifies. This change is set to take effect on January 1st.
HRSA has greenlit rebate plans for 21 drugs, an increase from last year's 14 approvals. The list includes some of the top-selling medications in the US, such as Bristol Myers' blood thinner Eliquis, which generated $10.2 billion in revenue last year.
