Visa and Mastercard Settle $167.5 Million Lawsuit Over ATM Fees
A $167.5 million settlement has been agreed upon between Visa and Mastercard in response to allegations that their rules contributed to higher fees at independent ATMs.
The lawsuit claims that these rules kept fees higher for cash withdrawals from machines located at gas stations, hotels, and convenience stores.
To be eligible for a share of the settlement fund, claimants must have paid an ATM fee between October 24, 2007, and August 14, 2026, using a deposit account or PIN-debit card. Credit card cash advances and prepaid card transactions are excluded from the settlement.
The companies deny any wrongdoing and state that the settlement is not an admission of liability. The court still needs to grant final approval for the settlement, with a hearing scheduled for February 17, 2027.
