Walmart Stocks Slip Amid Concerns Over Personalized Pricing and Digital Shelf Labels
Walmart shares took a small hit on September 30 as concerns over personalized pricing and digital shelf labels sparked investor unease. At $106.33, WMT stocks dipped by about 0.44% in trading.
The issue at hand is that Walmart has emphasized it doesn't use shoppers' personal info to set prices, which has led some to wonder how the speed of price updates via digital labels affects pricing decisions.
Digital shelf labels can now update prices in minutes, rather than hours or days, giving employees more time for other tasks on the sales floor. However, this speed hasn't translated into a margin boost for Walmart.
The company explains that prices are set centrally and displayed uniformly to all shoppers, with digital labels lacking cameras, microphones, or facial recognition capabilities.
