Warburg Pincus Set to Snag Universal NutriScience for Rs 2,800 Crore

Warburg Pincus is poised to acquire Universal NutriScience, the maker of Seacod cod liver oil capsules, in a deal valued at around Rs 2,800 crore. The proposed acquisition comes as private equity firms and consumer companies increasingly focus on India's growing nutraceutical market.

The Economic Times reports that Warburg Pincus emerged ahead of several prominent bidders, including ChrysCapital, Procter & Gamble, TA Associates, and Haleon, the former consumer health business of GlaxoSmithKline. The deal would strengthen Warburg Pincus' presence in India's healthcare and nutraceutical sectors.

Universal NutriScience was formed in 2021 through a partnership between Kedaara Capital and Universal Medicare, following the acquisition of 16 nutraceutical brands from Sanofi India for Rs 587 crore. The company has since expanded its portfolio across several healthcare and wellness categories.
