Warren Demands Answers on AI Tax Subsidies for Tech Giants
Senator Elizabeth Warren and several other Senate Democrats have sent letters to Meta, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft asking for information on tax subsidies related to AI and data center development.
The lawmakers are seeking answers about how these companies have used tax breaks authorized in the 2025 tax cutting and spending package, passed by Republicans at the behest of President Donald Trump. The bill provided significant tax incentives for AI and data center developers.
According to Warren's letter, corporate tax payments are down 25% this year, with Meta paying $2.8 billion in federal income tax in 2025, down from $9.6 billion in 2024. Microsoft's current federal income tax expense dropped by over $11 billion from fiscal year 2025 to 2026.
The lawmakers have requested answers from each company by October 12, and are seeking information on their lobbying efforts leading up to the passage of the 2025 legislation. They have also expressed concerns about the impact of AI on American lives, including increased utility bills and job losses.
