Windows 11 Bug Breaks Backup Feature, Microsoft Finally Admits

Microsoft has admitted to another bug in Windows 11's September update, which broke the File History backup feature.

The issue was first reported over two weeks ago but Microsoft did not acknowledge it until now, despite being a widely known problem.

File History is a feature that allows users to keep their files backed up to an external drive or network location. However, after installing the September 2026 Windows security update KB5124008, some customers using File History were unable to create or update backups.

The bug has been fixed in the latest optional update, but it's not clear if all issues with File History have been resolved. The 'Run now' ability and synchronization of save times are still problematic.
