Xbox Cuts Run Deep: Microsoft Axes 268 Positions Amid Restructuring
Microsoft's restructuring of its Xbox business has taken another significant turn, with the company announcing the elimination of 268 positions across various studios and central functions. This move is part of a broader effort to reset the Xbox business, but some are questioning whether it's actually a dismantling.
The latest cuts follow an earlier round of layoffs and studio sales this year, which Microsoft said were necessary to build a stronger business going forward. However, not everyone agrees with this assessment, with one critic calling it 'Microsoft continuing its race toward the bottom and gutting Xbox piece by piece.'
Several major Xbox studios will be moved underneath Activision, Bethesda, and King, while Turn 10 and Playground Games are being combined. Additionally, Halo Studios will no longer lead development of the next Halo game, and Ninja Theory is facing closure after Microsoft failed to sell the studio.
