Gastech Panel: Predictability Key to Ensuring Energy Security for LNG Investment
Gastech panelists emphasized the importance of predictability and long-term contracts in ensuring energy security, particularly for LNG investment. Martin Hupka, President of Sempra Infrastructure's LNG business line, noted that buyers are looking beyond price and placing greater value on control and certainty of supply.
Kanita Sartwattayu, PTTEP's CEO Designate, highlighted Thailand's need to maximize domestic gas production to reduce exposure to LNG price movements. She warned that the country's reliance on imported LNG could rise from 30% to around 70% within the next 10 years if domestic production cannot be sustained.
The panelists also discussed the potential of AI in improving engineering, maintenance, safety, and project execution. They agreed that energy security depends on a combination of timing, predictability, flexibility, diversity, innovation, and disciplined execution across the gas value chain.
