Russia's LNG Exports to China Surge by Over 28% in Eight Months

Russia's exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China have surged by over 28% in the first eight months of this year. According to Chinese customs data, Russia shipped 5.153 million tonnes of LNG to China, valued at $2.669 billion, a significant increase from last year when 4.016 million tonnes were exported for $2.358 billion.

The data reveals that the value of Russian LNG imports to China rose by 13.19% compared to the same period in 2025. Russia's exports of LNG to China have consistently increased over the years, with a record 9.799 million tonnes being exported in 2025 alone, representing an 18.3% increase from 2024 and a fifty-fold increase from 2015.

The development comes as part of an agreement between Russia and China to accelerate the implementation of the 'Power of Siberia 2' gas pipeline project. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that an agreement had been reached to increase oil supplies to China via Kazakhstan from 10 million to 12.5 million tons annually, with legal procedures underway.
