Shell-Led LNG Canada Expansion Clears Path for Double Capacity
LNG Canada, a consortium of global energy firms led by Shell PLC, has received approval for a massive expansion of its liquefied natural gas shipping terminal on the British Columbia coast. This move will double the capacity at the Kitimat facility, clearing the way for two more giant processing units that will add 14 million tonnes of annual capacity.
The expanded LNG Canada project is expected to generate direct economic benefits, with peak construction employment estimated to reach 2,100 positions across five sites. Broader economic activity associated with the project is also expected to support local economies and public services.
TC Energy Corp. has announced it will proceed with expansion of its Coastal Gaslink pipeline that carries natural gas from Dawson Creek in northeastern B.C. to the LNG Canada liquefaction facility in Kitimat, B.C. The expansion would almost double the capacity of the 670-kilometre route.
