BitBox Brings Lightning to Your Pockets with No New Seed Phrase Required

BitBox has integrated Lightning Network into its mobile app, allowing users to create a hot wallet directly from their on-chain balance without needing a new seed phrase. The integration uses the Breez SDK and allows for seamless everyday spending while keeping long-term savings locked behind the hardware device.

The feature is available to all BitBox hardware wallet owners and enables users to scan and pay Lightning invoices, send and receive Bitcoin, claim their own Lightning address, top up from their on-chain wallet, and sweep funds back again. This eliminates the need for multiple apps or services, making it easier for casual users to access the Lightning Network.

The integration addresses a common hurdle for users: the complexity of setting up and maintaining a Lightning node. Spark handles this plumbing, allowing users to focus on everyday transactions without worrying about liquidity or channel management.
