Bitcoin Dips on Trump's Iran Snub, Oil Prices Surge
Bitcoin has fallen to around $83,000 after a quiet weekend gave way to a rough Monday open. The price dropped by about 1.8% over 24 hours, with most top 10 cryptocurrencies extending last week's cooldown.
The downturn is largely attributed to President Trump's rejection of Iran's seven-day plan to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This has pushed Brent crude back above $100 a barrel, lifted the dollar, and raised Treasury yields. These factors are unfavorable for non-yielding assets like Bitcoin and gold.
Despite this, some analysts see the current dip as a minor correction rather than a reversal. The chart still leans bullish, with the 50-day moving average sitting above the 200-day, known as a golden cross. Additionally, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is in bullish territory without flashing overbought.
The week ahead will be crucial for Bitcoin's price movement, with several key data releases including the PCE inflation report and jobs data on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. The Federal Reserve's next rate hike decision will also depend on these reports.
