Ethereum Staking Yields 2.66% Gross, 2.2% Net Through Providers
The Ethereum network currently pays out around 2.66 percent a year through staking, but only just over 2.2 percent of this reaches investors through providers like Lido and Rocket Pool. This gap is the difference between the gross yield, set by the protocol, and the net yield, set by the provider. For investors, it's essential to understand how the reward arises and what factors affect it.
Staking on Ethereum means depositing ether as security to allow validators to propose and confirm new blocks. The reward draws on three sources: the issuance of new ether, users' priority fees, and additional income from transaction ordering. However, these sources fluctuate with network load and are not guaranteed.
The current gross yield of 2.66 percent is not a fixed quantity, as it is affected by the total amount of ether staked and the network's activity level. In comparison, other networks have higher yields, but these also fall as the stake increases. For example, Solana's staking yield has been declining.
