Privacy Coins Zcash and Monero Outperform as Crypto Market Stagnates
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a period of stagnation, with major coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum showing minimal gains. Bitcoin is up just 0.59% to $86,264.06, while Ethereum has risen 0.34% to $2,714.39. The overall market cap remains flat at around $3 trillion, according to CoinGecko data. Most of the top 12 coins are trading sideways, with Solana up 1.4% and XRP gaining 1.07%, while BNB and Tron have seen slight declines.
In contrast, privacy coins Zcash and Monero are standing out as the top performers. Zcash has surged 3%, recovering from a recent pullback near its late-September peak of $1,698. Monero is up 2.14% to $562.32. Despite these gains, Zcash remains about 19% below its high, and Monero is trading 11% below its September peak.
The market's flat performance is attributed to macroeconomic factors, including the Federal Reserve's rate hike to 3.75%-4.00% on September 16 and the weaker-than-expected September jobs report, which showed only 29,000 new jobs versus the expected 84,000. The weak data reduced the odds of an October rate hike, which has contributed to the current market stagnation.
Bitcoin, however, continues to show bullish momentum, having recently flashed a second golden cross. The coin is still below resistance at $87,354, but analysts note that even strong bull runs need time to breathe. Zcash, meanwhile, has seen significant gains over the past year, up about 2,500%, despite recent outflows from Grayscale's Zcash ETF, which lost $30.25 million on September 30.
