Amazon Distributes $2.5 Billion in Settlement Payouts to Affected Consumers
A settlement payout of up to $2.5 billion is being distributed to consumers who were affected by Amazon's deceptive billing and cancellation practices.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced last month that Amazon was accelerating and widening consumer refund payouts as part of the settlement, which was reached in September 2025.
Under the terms of the agreement, Amazon must pay up to $1.5 billion in redress to consumers who were harmed by its deceptive Prime enrollment practices, in addition to a $1 billion civil penalty.
The eligibility requirement for the automatic payments has been expanded beyond low-use subscribers to include those who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits over a one-year period.
