Amazon Invests Heavily in Driver Pay and Safety Technology
Amazon has committed an additional $1.9 billion to its Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program, bringing the total investment in the program to $21.7 billion since its launch eight years ago.
The company aims to increase driver pay by an average of 16% over three years, with national average earnings expected to rise to nearly $24 per hour, up from $23. According to Amazon's Vice President of Transportation, Beryl Tomay, the company's goal is to build 'the safest delivery network in the world.'
To achieve this, Amazon has invested more than $543 million in safety initiatives and technology for DSP owners since 2022. The company is rolling out surround-view cameras that identify vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians from all directions and notify Delivery Associates.
Amazon's AI-powered Smart Delivery Glasses will also be expanded to over 20,000 units by the end of 2027, providing navigation suggestions and delivery details in a worker's line of sight. The company is using 'hardware and AI-backed software systems' to help DSP owners run stronger operations and improve the delivery experience.
