AMD's Old Guard: Used Radeon Cards Outshine New Nvidia Options

The graphics card market has been volatile lately, with NVIDIA cards experiencing significant price increases. In contrast, older AMD GPUs are still holding their value and can be found at reasonable prices on the used market.

The RX 6000 and RX 7000 Series cards from AMD are particularly notable for their affordability and performance capabilities. These cards have already taken a hit in terms of depreciation due to being used, making them more stable in price compared to brand-new NVIDIA cards.

In fact, the prices of new NVIDIA RTX 50 Series cards have skyrocketed, with some models seeing an increase of over 60% from their launch prices. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, for example, launched at $429 but now costs around $800, while the RTX 5070 Ti launched at $749 and is now priced at $1,200.

On the other hand, used AMD cards can be found for a fraction of the cost. The RX 6800 XT, for instance, was bought by the author for $380 in January 2025 and sold again for the same price just a few months later. This is a testament to the long-term value of these cards, which tend to offer more VRAM than their NVIDIA counterparts.
