Android Lock Screen Now Displays Crucial Device ID

Google has rolled out a new feature for Android devices that allows users to check their IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) directly from the lock screen. The IMEI is an identification number required for device repairs and official support, making it easier for users to receive help even if their device cannot be unlocked.

The feature was announced in the July 2026 edition of Google's System Release Notes, which compiles information on system updates aimed at improving security and reliability. The IMEI display can be found by navigating to the 'Device info' section on the 'Emergency call' screen.

While the feature is enabled by default, users can hide their IMEI from view by turning off 'Device ID on lock screen' within the 'Theft Protection' settings. This provides an added layer of security for device owners who may not want to share their IMEI with others.
