Google is testing an innovative shopping experience on its Gemini and AI Mode platforms. The company has added a 'Buy' button to select product listings, redirecting users straight to Flipkart's checkout page.

The trial is currently limited to a small group of users and specific product categories, including smartphones, electronics, and mobile accessories. This experiment aims to integrate e-commerce capabilities into AI assistants, transitioning them from simple discovery tools to active participants in the purchasing process.

As part of this evolution, Google is developing the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard designed to enable seamless interactions between AI agents and retailers across all stages of the shopping journey. This test follows previous announcements regarding Google's collaboration with Flipkart to bring agentic shopping experiences to consumers in India.
