Pixel 11 Extreme Charging Mode: Safe for Battery Health?

The Google Pixel 11's Extreme Charging Mode has raised concerns about its impact on battery health. Similar to fast charging, this feature aims to charge the phone quickly by shutting down background tasks and focusing solely on charging. However, some users may worry that this mode could cause damage to their battery.

Google assures that during Extreme Charging Mode, the phone automatically manages temperature changes and keeps the battery within normal range. While in theory, it could cause damage, rigorous testing would be needed to confirm any negative effects.

The Pixel 11's battery degradation is a long-term issue, noticeable only after hundreds of charging cycles. According to Google, capacity should remain around 80% of the original effective capacity after 1,000 charging cycles, which equates to approximately 1,000 days of daily use from 0 to maximum charge.

Battery wear on the Pixel 11 can also be caused by other factors, such as poorly optimized apps that constantly sync data in the background, display settings demanding more power, and bad charging habits like letting the device discharge to 0% or charging it at freezing cold temperatures. Using a cheap third-party cable and adaptor can also harm the lithium-ion battery by causing unwanted heat from poor thermal management or voltage regulation failure.
