FAA Grants Boeing Waiver for Additional 777F Freighters Past 2028
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted Boeing a waiver to sell additional 777F freighter aircraft past January 1, 2028. This decision allows Boeing to meet strong customer demand and avoid a production gap that could result in over $15 billion in lost U.S. exports.
The FAA stated it is providing Boeing with 'flexibility and accommodating uncertainty in the certification timeline of the replacement dedicated freighter airplane, the 777-8F.'
The waiver will enable Boeing to sell 35 additional 777F aircraft after 2028, when new emissions standards would otherwise prohibit their sale. The FAA reported that these aircraft could increase freighter operations by roughly 2% and raise fuel consumption by about 8% compared to global freighter operations in 2024.
