Halo Fans Revive Classic Multiplayer Game with Fan-Made Project Reclaimer
Microsoft's struggles to revive the Halo franchise have given rise to an unlikely savior: dedicated fans. A group of enthusiasts has created a fan-made standalone PC launcher, Halo 3: Project Reclaimer, which brings back several beloved features from the original game.
The project, still in its early stages, allows players to enjoy Halo 3's multiplayer mode with up to 64 players in one game. It also includes expanded Forge options, a server browser with auto-downloaded mods, and pre-match map/mode voting, all of which were missing from the original.
Unlike the Master Chief Collection, which requires a legitimate copy of Halo 3 to play through its launcher, Halo 3: Project Reclaimer does not require any additional purchases. This means that Microsoft is unlikely to be able to shut down the project, making it a viable alternative for fans looking to relive their favorite moments from the game.
According to one of the developers behind the project, WarmBiertje, this version is not a faithful recreation of the original 19-year-old Xbox 360 Halo 3 release. Instead, it 'changes or adds whatever makes it better to play today.'
