Honeywell Report Exposes OT Cybersecurity Visibility Gap Across Multiple Industries

Honeywell's latest report highlights a concerning gap in operational technology (OT) cybersecurity visibility across various industries. The 2026 Operational Technology Cybersecurity Benchmark Report surveyed over 600 cybersecurity risk, compliance, and operations leaders from different sectors worldwide.

The survey revealed that while 88% of respondents claimed their OT cybersecurity programs were mature, only 21% maintained a complete inventory of their OT assets. This disparity suggests many operators lack a comprehensive view of the systems connected to industrial networks, even as digital tools spread across plants and infrastructure.

Cyber incidents had a significant operational impact, with an average downtime of 16.2 hours after the most severe incident and estimated losses exceeding $500,000 per hour in some cases. The report also found that only 33% of organizations fully integrated OT into their centralized security operations center, while 20% continuously monitored connected devices.

The sector breakdown showed a heavy recent incident burden across critical infrastructure sectors, with energy and utilities experiencing the highest rate at 91%. Healthcare stood out for having the lowest percentage of fully integrated facility and building systems into cybersecurity monitoring and protection at 19%.
