Huawei Unveils Ascend 960 AI Chips, Challenging Nvidia's Dominance
Chinese tech giant Huawei is set to unveil its new AI technology this week in Shanghai, marking a significant step towards replacing Nvidia Corp. as the leading provider of AI chips in China.
The company's rotating chairman Wang Tao will present its upcoming Ascend 960 AI chips at the annual summit on Thursday. The Ascend 960 is expected to be commercially available in 2027.
Huawei's move comes despite US export control curbs, which have restricted the sale of certain technologies to Chinese companies. By developing its own AI chip technology, Huawei aims to reduce its reliance on foreign suppliers and establish itself as a major player in the global AI market.
