India Gets Alexa+ with Hindi Support: Amazon's Voice Assistant Expands Reach
Amazon has launched its Alexa+ conversational assistant in India, offering Hindi support to all customers. The new feature is available in Early Access for both Hindi and English, with plans to make it free for Prime members after testing.
Alexa+ can handle complex multi-step tasks, including ordering groceries from Amazon's quick commerce service Amazon Now and controlling smart home devices. Users can switch between languages mid-sentence, and the assistant is integrated with various Indian services such as Swiggy, Zomato, and EazyDiner.
For non-Prime customers, Alexa+ will cost ₹2,000 per month ($20.85). Amazon has reported that its smart home devices have grown by 20% from last year, indicating a growing interest in voice assistants in the country with over 600 million Hindi speakers.
