Kardex Automation Helps Warren CAT Boost Efficiency in Texas Facility
Warren CAT, a Caterpillar dealer in Texas, has introduced goods-to-person automation at its Store 05 facility in Midland. The automated parts storage and fulfillment system was implemented by Kardex and features 20 AutoStore R5 robots and 20,852 storage bins within approximately 5,600 square feet.
The system also includes three CarouselPorts and two ConveyorPorts, as well as the Kardex FulfillX warehouse execution system integrated with Warren CAT's existing FDC WMSv2 warehouse management system. This prioritizes outbound orders by category, due date, and urgency before translating them into AutoStore tasks.
Kardex analyzed over 93,000 historical orders when designing the system, which has been sized to support 3,648 picking lines and 751 put-away lines per day based on anticipated fifth-year volumes. Since going live, the system has reportedly reduced operator travel and increased small-parts storage density.
