Lufthansa Group Exercises Options for Boeing 737 MAX 10s, Raises Firm Order to 60 Aircraft
Lufthansa Group has exercised options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10s, raising its firm order to 60 aircraft. This decision follows a contract signed in December 2023, where the group ordered 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and negotiated 60 options on additional aircraft from the same family.
The package now converted has a list value of around $3.4 billion. Deliveries of the MAX 10s are scheduled for the early 2030s. The group has not yet assigned a specific operator, but stated that the aircraft will gradually replace older examples of the Airbus A320 family at various companies within the holding.
The 40 remaining options allow the group to keep choosing between MAX 8s and MAX 10s based on demand, slots, and A320 replacements. The dual sourcing makes training and maintenance more expensive, but reduces the risk of depending on a single manufacturer.
