Merck's 'Hive of Whole Health' Initiative Aims to Empower People Living with HIV
Merck's 'Your Hive of Whole Health' initiative is an HIV education program aimed at empowering people living with HIV to take charge of their overall health. The program, launched in September at the 2026 U.S. Conference on HIV/AIDS, uses a 'hive' metaphor to represent community support and holistic well-being. As part of this effort, Merck enlisted Emmy-nominated actress Debbie Allen as an ambassador for the campaign.
The program offers various resources, including a website with health information, tips on physical conditions, and guidance on emotional well-being and social health. A 49-page downloadable 'Hive Keeper' guided workbook is also available to help individuals keep track of their physical and mental health.
According to Conrod Kelly, Merck's U.S. HIV business unit lead, the goal of this initiative is to shift focus from just treating the disease to thriving as a whole person. The company hopes that by providing comprehensive support, it can help people living with HIV feel more empowered and connected to their communities.
Debbie Allen has been a long-time advocate for HIV awareness and education. In a statement, she emphasized the importance of caring for the 'whole individual' in order to strengthen the community as a whole. With this initiative, Merck aims to promote a new era of joy, inclusion, and well-being among people living with HIV.
