ONLYOFFICE Edges Out LibreOffice in Microsoft File Format Handling

Oluwademilade, a dentist and tech enthusiast, has switched from LibreOffice to ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors after finding it better suited for handling Microsoft file formats.

He had used LibreOffice for years due to its free and open-source nature, but often encountered issues when working with files created in Microsoft Office. The headaches usually arose when someone else sent him a DOCX file, which might open without any obvious problems but still require double-checking whether tables or page breaks had shifted.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, on the other hand, is centered around Microsoft's file formats, specifically OOXML, which lines up well with his workflow. The suite is designed to handle DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files seamlessly, making it easier for him to make edits and send back the revised documents.

Oluwademilade notes that while LibreOffice can also open and save Microsoft file formats, its default working format is OpenDocument (ODT, ODS, and ODP), whereas ONLYOFFICE builds its everyday editing workflow around OOXML. This makes a significant difference in his daily work, as he prefers to make edits and send back the same type of file without worrying about format conversion.
