Veteran Business Leader Harold Frank MacDowell Jr. Passes Away at 94
Harold Frank MacDowell Jr., a man of many pursuits and passions, passed away on September 23rd, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, due to natural causes. He was born on April 2nd, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
MacDowell graduated from Tulsa Central High School and the University of Oklahoma before serving as a Captain in the US Army Reserve for 11 years.
He had a long career in business, starting with Griffin Grocery Company in 1957 where he worked for 29 years, eventually becoming President of the Wholesale Division in Fort Smith. After the company was sold in 1986, MacDowell began working in the investment industry as a trainee with Shearson American Express and retired in 2000 as Vice President-Investments with successor Smith Barney.
MacDowell's community involvement was extensive, with memberships in The Noon Civics Club, Rotary International, and various other organizations. He served on numerous boards, including the Fort Smith Area Community Foundation, Good Samaritan Clinic, and Salvation Army, among others.
